Catahoula Rescue
Welcome to Currant Catahoulas Rescue!
Australia’s only rescue service dedicated to the Catahoula Leopard Dog.
As the number of Catahoulas increase within Australia, unfortunately so do the number of Catahoulas that cannot remain with their owners for a variety of reasons. When we heard that the occasional Catahoula was popping up at pounds across Australia, we decided that early action needed to be taken to protect the breed from an unknown future. And who better to re-home rescued Catahoulas than a Catahoula breeder, and one at that which cares about the future of the breed. Because of this Currant Catahoulas have established Australia’s first dedicated rescue service for Catahoula’s only.
Currant Catahoulas Rescue aim to re-home as many Catahoulas as possible and assist those who may be having troubles keeping their Catahoula. We rescue Catahoulas from pounds, RSPCA organisations, or from individuals who may have found a Catahoula or an owner who is unsure of their ability to keep their dog. We then nurture them to good health, provide vet checks, health documentation, and desexing. We also provide basic training and socialisation if necessary depending on the background of the dog, if known, and sometimes, based upon behavioural testing completed by the RSPCA. We then screen potential owners as it is imperitive that these dogs go to a permanent and loving home.
Contrary to belief, not all resuce dogs are abandoned for negative reasons. The following are some reasons why a dog may end up being rescued:
- The dogs owner may have to move elsewhere or into a residence with a small yard, and not have time or cannot find another suitable home.
- The dog may be lost and the owner may not come forward for one of many reasons.
- The owners priorities may have changed such as an injury that prevents them from sufficiently exercising their dog or they would prefer a smaller, less energetic dog.
We sell rescue dogs at cost price including any pound or RSPCA adoption fees, and veterinary and freight costs. We do not make any profit on the sale of rescue dogs.
Have you heard about a rescue dog that we are not aware of? Do you have a rescue dog yourself and would like to advertise it here? Or, are you having difficulties keeping your dog and would like to talk to us about possibly providing a new home for it? Contact us at Currant Catahoulas Rescue and see how we can help.

Choc
This is Choc, a Catahoulas Cross that has been rescued by his foster carer Claire.
He is estimated to be around 1 year old and Claire describes him as beautiful, gentle, loving, and very willing to please.
Choc would suit a forever home with lots of space and perhaps with a tradie or farmer where he can be with his master all day.
If you are interested in Choc give us a call on 0414 458 175 and we can get you in touch with his foster carer.

CCookie
Cookie is a 2-month old female Catahoula Cross available for adoption at RSPCA Kingaroy now.
See her profile here.
“Hi my name is Cookie Im a quiet girl looking for a loving home. I came in with my brothers and sisters and I think its my turn now.
I am very playful and I occasionally get a little carried away and can nip, but Im only being a typical crazy pup. So I might be better suited to a family with older kids as I dont want to hurt them accidently.
As you can see in my photo i was all black and white a couple of weeks ago but i am now developing some brindle colouring on my legs.
My adoption fee is $350 which includes a 3 month supply of intestinel and heartworm prevention (interceptor) valued at $28.95
As my breed is relatively new it would be worth your while checking out my breed on the internet.”
