About Us

Andrew with Josh and BuddyI, Andrew, have had dogs all of my life but it wasn’t until I discovered the Catahoula that I realised what all of my other dogs had been lacking.  I was in awe at the variety of skills and abilities of these dogs.  They are wonderfully loyal pets with very unique looks, but they are also very skilled at hunting and working.

My original ladies, Auscat\'s C1 and C2I started with my original ladies and sisters, C1 and C2 and have expanded from there.  Today, I am proud to say that I have a wonderfully diverse range of Catahoulas.  The pride of these are the first bloodline to have entered Australia in more than 5 years.  This new bloodline is that of Cayo Conch, champion of champions and owner of the best PennHip score known in any Catahoula tested to date.  Following the tragic passing of Cayo’s owner, the late Donna Matvejs, it is my honour to have the first litter of Cayo puppies within Australia and to carry on the legacy that Donna had started.

Our dogs backyard - all 200 acres of it!I live on nearly 200 acres of sugar cane in the Gold Coast area.  I was born and bred on sugar cane farms and my dogs love it.  I take them out on the quad regularly and they love running around in the cane and playing hide and seek.

I always use my dogs for guarding our home and business.  Prior to his passing, my male, Red, worked on the farm as my guard dog when customers come and buy sugar cane mulch from us.  He guarded my farm well from his little dog house by putting on his guard dog demeanor although he was a very placid dog in reality. Since Red’s passing, Buddy (pictured in the top picture) now takes over this role.  Just like with Red, I bring him back home and he, with my other dogs, guard my home so that no-one can come near the house without them giving us a good warning first.  I also take him about on my ute with me everyday at work and he loves the wind in his face.  He either follows me around the farm or waits on the back of the ute.

Finally, I like to take my dogs out in the cane and out west to hunt pigs.  I only use my dogs to bail as that is what they are best suited for but they will hang when taught.  I go mostly by foot but also get the dogs to go off the back of the ute or the quad.  They only go after fresh scents no more than an hour or two old and the fresher the scent, the more keen they are.  My dogs have caught several hundred pigs in the last handful of years, mostly out west though.
