Welcome to the website of Currant Catahoulas, the leading breeder of quality Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dogs within Australia. We are certified breeders with the National Association of Louisiana Catahoulas (NALC) and breed the Catahoula because we love them and believe they are one of the best breeds of dog in the world. Our main aim is to increase awareness and knowledge throughout Australia of this wonderful breed and to establish Australia’s future of high quality Catahoulas.
Although well recognised in other parts of the world, particularly the United States of America, Catahoulas are still new to Australia with no more than a suspected 300-500 existing between Australia and New Zealand. Because of this many Australian’s are not aware of the versatility of Catahoulas such as the fact that they have long been used to work cattle and hunt animals such as pigs, deer, raccoons and squirrels and some are expert climbers. (No joke!).
This website includes news and information about the breed and what they are used for. It also includes lots of information about us, our current and upcoming litters and a section of relevant resources and links for you to choose from should you choose. Please check out our rescue section to help us place rescued Catahoulas in to loving homes, and our lost and found section to reunite owners with their treasured dog. Enjoy!

We are deeply saddened by our recent loss of Auscat’s Red. Red was taken from us last week after being run over by a visiting truck whilst working on our farm with Andrew. Red was our best guard dog for our farm and will be sorely missed by our customers when they come to pick up mulch. He was also our best hunter and stud dog and his absence will make a noticeable dent in our hunting adventures and breeding program. Most of all, he will be sorely missed by Andrew who will no longer see his best mate enjoy the breeze in his ears on the back of his ute around the farm everyday. He will be forever loved and missed.
